On August 28th, my Aunt, Kay Shaver, suffered a traumatic brain injury after an aneurysm hemorraged near her brain stem. She was in a coma for roughly three weeks, with VERY little chance of recovery. Because of God's grace, she miraculously began to recover, but having to relearn how to move every muscle in her body.
Many of you have been asking how you can be helpful to us and by all means please keep praying. However, for those of you who are in a position to do more, I wanted to let you know about something that would really help my Grandma, Kay's mom.
Since Kay has been in Raleigh, we have all been taking turns helping her get to and from the hospital. Understandably, she doesn't want to be anywhere else. As Kay's memory has returned, she has experienced various states of stress and confusion, which has been calmed by her mother's presence.
In three months, grandma has missed only a couple days of being here with Kay, usually because of transportation issues. She has been reading healing scriptures over her since day one, and if she can't be here to do it in person, she does it from home, with faith that God knows no boundaries of space or time and that Kay hears the Word.
About a month ago, we discovered the Heart Center Inn, a hotel within the hospital. Our family has been chipping in a couple days a week to help grandma stay here so she can stay with Kay and not be limited by our logistical boundaries.
Grandma is like a different person when she is here. She is so relaxed and peaceful knowing she can be with Kay until she falls asleep at night and be right back with her first thing in the morning. There is a continental breakfast which provides two meals per day.
Our current room has a large window where she can read and watch the sun rise.
Currently, the rate is $60 per night, however, if she stays 12 more nights, the rate will reduce to just $35 per night.
Yesterday, because we were here with Kay during her therapy, we were able to tell the therapists activities that she liked to do. We were able to play cards with her! She is so encouraged when we are here, as I'm sure you can understand.
