Help Dick McIntyre on his road to recovery

Organised by Courtney (Dicks Daughter) Hi all who may be reading this. On Saturday the 3rd of June my father was out at Charles Prince Airport doing a skydive which soon went horribly wrong. The parachute opened well and all was going fine until about 10/15 meters before landing the wind disappeared leaving no resistance for the brakes and one side of the parachute collapsed which ended in an extremely bad landing which has resulted in some bad injury. Mum and I were called about the news and we met the ambulance at Health Point Harare where he has been. At this point we had no idea what the injuries were at all but he was conscious, alert and knew exactly what happened and was just in shock and extreme pain in the hip area. Pain meds were finally given and the doctor had requested an Xray, once the xray was out we could see what looked like 2 breaks in the pelvis area, the doc then requested a CT scan which is much clearer as with pelvic breaks you can damage the organs and have internal bleeding and we had to be 100% sure there was none of that. After a long painful night of being moved from bed to bed to get xrayd we had finally finished the CT scan and were waiting what felt like forever for the doctor to come in. Dad was then moved from the trauma side to a general ward where he has been staying, doc came in around 10pm and had a look at the CT results and from what he could tell we had no internal bleeding or organ damage which was so good to hear. He has been on quite a few drips as his bloods and urea showed signs of dehydration which the doc said is caused from the blood loss on impact when the bones broke but the bleeding stopped which is a great sign, he has also had very low blood pressure which has been monitored. At this stage all we needed to know now was if he needed surgery or not of which the doc had to go and watch the CD of the CT scan to get the report on the break of the bone and that we would only hear the following day when he came in. On the Sunday we went in and waited for the doc, he finally came in and explained what he had seen the pelvis is broken in 3 places but he does not need surgery which again was such good news to our ears, but it is a long road of recovery approximately 12 weeks or more of bed rest and physiotherapy, he will need xrays/CT scans every few weeks to check on the bones to make sure that they are healing correctly and merging together well. With all of the above we understand how blessed we are for him to be alive and not need a surgery, although medical aid does not cover extreme sports like skydiving and on just the few days that he has been at the hospital and with all the CTs, xrays, bloods etc the costs have exhausted our funds completely and we are appealing for some help in this time of need. Dad will need countless physiotherapy sessions, to start off they will come to the hospital to teach him how to move from bed to wheelchair, We are still awaiting the bill from the orthopedic surgeon who has been attending to him, the physiotherapist will recommend a certain wheelchair which dad will need when he is able to use aswell and a few other gadgets to have at home for general things like showering etc. CT scans will be needed again in a few weeks time to check progress and we are expecting many more costs to add onto all the above mentioned. With him not being able to work for the next 12 or more weeks this also has a huge affect as I'm sure some of you may know he is self employed. We thank you all for taking the time to read this and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any donations made. Please consider helping us in this time of need. Thank you again.
