Tammy's Recovery Fund
For as long as I can remember, my mom has been defying the odds.
Despite being born with only one hand, she was determined as a little girl to do everything on her own. While cutting steak, tying shoes, and jump roping are easy feats for us, she had to train herself how to do these things her own way.
Flash forward 50 years, and she is now one of the best waitresses I've ever seen--balancing the coffee cups of her regular customers on her wrist and zipping around the restaurant at the speed of light.
She never stopped working to support our family--she never let anything get in her way of being the best mom and role model that she could possibly be for me and my brother.
This brings us to today. My mom is in desparate need of an ankle fusion. After breaking her leg as a youth, the break never healed correctly and she has been walking differently to compensate ever since. After years of ignoring the pain and avoiding missing work, the time has come for the ankle fusion that she needs in order to provide her with the quality of life that she deserves.
Her pain is unbearable, making this surgery of great importance. While most folks would list the pain as their first reason for surgery, my mom is always thinking of others:
"I want to be able to dance at your wedding."
"I want to be able to hold my grandchildren without the fear of falling down."
It is this selflessness that makes me want to help her so badly. My dream would be to collect enough funds to support her 3-month recovery period from May 4th (date of surgery) to August 4th where she will be completely out of work, or about $7,200. However, anything at all will help.
I sincerely cannot think of a more deserving person than my mom. Sadly, her finances and the thought of being out of work for 3 months has made her reconsider this surgery many, many times. Please help me to prove to her that she is not alone, and that the decision that she made to move forward with this life changing surgery is the right one!
