Glenn's Battle
Donation protected
Hi, I am Sherryn and I am fundraising for my brother Glenn.
My brother is a father to Kane and Jade who are both in their 20's and together with his beautiful wife Mary they have John Rey who is a delightful 6yr old.
Everyone who knows or has ever met my brother would describe him as an incredibly hard worker with a heart of gold. He started working life on cattle stations then became a rigger/boilermaker and has completed his adv. diploma in Engineering. He has always strived to be the best in his field of work and to provide for his family.
Glenn's life has not been without challenges. In 2005 he suffered a stroke that temporarily affected his speech and only a few months after that needed a below-knee amputation due to a flare-up of osteomyelitis from a bone infection 22yrs earlier. In a testament to his strength and desire to work, Glenn was back on the tools 2 weeks and 5 days post amputation and hopped on one leg for up to 10hr days to avoid needing a handout.
You can imagine how hard it is then for Glenn to accept that he now needs all of our help. This latest battle is a big one! Three weeks ago he was diagnosed with 2 exceptionally rare forms of head/neck cancers. Two completely different types of cancer at once! So far he has had two surgical interventions to remove the tumours, some glands and lymph nodes and to stage the cancer.
Glenn has an enormous battle ahead, with the treatment being an extensive course of radiation daily for 6-8 weeks. He is in the process of having his teeth removed and in 4-6 weeks when his mouth has healed the treatment will commence.
With this treatment, it is highly unlikely that Glenn will be able to work and also that he will be able to return to the hard physical work that he has always done. We have no doubt that he has the strength and tenacity to kick both of these cancers and win this battle but the result will be a career change at age 58.
Glenn is adamant that he will continue to be a hard-working taxpayer but also acknowledges that he needs a hand through this major change and the battle ahead in order to provide for his family and secure a future for little John Rey and Mary.
Glenn sends his heartfelt gratitude to everyone for their help.
As his sister I too am so grateful for a community to support Glenn just as he has supported his community his whole life.
Glenn is going to be working hard to fight this cancer and I ask that we all donate what we can to take the financial pressure and stress away from him at this time.
Thankyou from the bottom of my heart
