Fatima's Wish - Cancer Care Equity for Moldova

Fatima Djalo Johnson passed on February 12, 2019 but her fight, her legacy and her voice now passes to us: her family, friends, communities, colleagues and allies as we pledge to advance the causes in which she was such a fiercely eloquent leader. As we begin to honor her spirit, we have established this campaign, and ask that you consider donating to it in lieu of sending flowers or other gifts.

Fatima explains it best: “I’ve thought a lot about how I made it this far in my own beautiful, inspiring mess.  But what is my message? My message is never give up. Medical care in America and in countries like Moldova should not be so different. They should all have the standard of care where courageous providers always believe in the will of their patients. They should give their patients strength to fight and choose the journey of their lives. And when you look in the mirror, this strength will let you know that you are beautiful. Embrace your lips, how they smile. Appreciate your eyes and the curve of your nose. Recognize the privilege of focusing your love into a single moment: now.”


The money raised here will provide the seed money for an initiative that also honors her first oncologist to ensure that every Moldovan with cancer has the chance to choose the journey of their lives and showing Moldovans how they can support that choice. The immediate aim will be to build or help an organization that both donates medical equipment as well as studies, advocates and implements long-term, community-based solutions to eliminate disparities in health care and outcomes.
