I was asked to help write this message and have no idea how to start. At first I was overwhelmed with what seemed like a task I may not be able to accomplish. Then I realized that it wasn’t a task but a privilege to step up and try to help an admired colleague. So here goes
I am writing this message for Debbie Waszak. I have known Debbie for 5 years as a business associate and we work together on a daily basis. During that time I have amassed a great deal of respect for how she conducts herself in her business and personal life.
She is the devoted single Mother of Dominic, a teenage Son with a very bright future. He is that well-mannered way above average student that plays sports as well as having a talent as a jazz drummer. Who doesn’t love a jazz drummer? Not to mention he is a great baseball player!! Straight A Student in honors. He is one of the most respectful teenagers I have met. I mentioned devoted Mother above and I know that is a term that can sometimes be overused but I actually know it to be true and she has done a great job. She is a rightfully proud Mother who recently came to me with a sparkle in her eye to tell me of his most recent accomplishments. And I was as thrilled to hear as she was to tell it.
Debbie has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and will bravely face a long journey of treatment. During this time she will be unable to work and life’s expenses go on as always and that brings me back to why I am here.
Many of the people that I hope see this have known Debbie for 15 years or more as a friend and colleague and I’ve known many of you for a shorter time. I know how each of you feel about Debbie and I know that sometimes people want to help but don’t know how. In this case it’s easy. Slide your hand into your pocket and toss some money into this fund.
It is Summer time and most of you will be spending time with your children or grandchildren. Or you may be hiding from them. Either way it’s important that you are able to do that. I want to make sure that Debbie and Dominick can check their own Summer time plans off their list. When we started this go-fund campaign it required us to assign a goal. I was asked what is the goal? I said a million. Why not?
