I pray her illness is incurable than and not terminal. I always thought I was the stronger more positive one being the big brother but, in her illness, she is proving me wrong.
She supports everyone who is heart broken from the toll this illness has taken on her physically. When I lament not being able to be with her in Trinidad because of COVID, she simply said ‘you are where you need to be.’
My sister, Donna Ramnine, has an incurable Motor Neuron Disease. When diagnosed her first response was ‘if I had to get something it had to be rare.’ She has lost most of her weight, is losing muscle functions, has trouble swallowing and will lose mobility which will mean losing her independence.
As with these illnesses medical expenses are soaring and even the need for renovations to change her living environment is going to mean additional cost.
In spite of her tremendous positive attitude, I want to help her have one less thing to worry about.
