Support Craig's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Brenda Perez and I am the sister of Craig Thompson. He is 63 years old. We need your prayers and blessings. This fundraiser is for him.
Craig suffered a cardiac arrest while snow blowing on Feb 8th. His heart stopped beating, and his helper called 911 and started CPR. The paramedics took over when they got there, but they reported that it was longer than 10 minutes before they could get Craig's heart beating. Craig was intubated and held in a medically induced coma for three weeks because he wasn't able to breathe on his own. When they took out the tube, he got pneumonia, and they had to reinsert it for another week. They asked my mom and me if we wanted to let him go. They said that it was a decision that we should make because a brain could be without oxygen for a maximum of 5 minutes before brain damage occurs. We had too much hope to say "yes." So now he is going to live with a brain injury for the rest of his life.
He is still in the hospital. He has had to learn to talk, walk, eat, everything all over again. He doesn't know where he is or why he is there. We tell him, but he doesn't remember much of anything in his entire life. I have had to get guardianship of him, and I have been working to get him Medicaid, SSDI, and a long-term fully staffed home for him to go to when he gets out. It's been 4 1/2 months since he was admitted, and the state insurance has run out. He is now being charged $2100 a day to be there. The doctors have given him the green light because he is physically healthy, but the Medicaid is still processing, and there are no homes that will take him without it. My brother, Craig, is confused, and he wants to leave there so badly.
He needs money to get out of there and into a care facility. He needs to pay the hospital room and board, and he needs it to pay for the home he needs to go to.
If you can help Craig get on the road to a quality of life that offers him some degree of normalcy, my mom and I want you to know that we are grateful to you.
God Bless!
