HOPE for GiGi

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Valerie Bivins, wife, mother, GiGi, and pillar of the community. She has dedicated her life to the service of others and has been a rock not only to her family, but to everyone that has truly gotten the chance to know her. She has not only served her family, but has dutifully served children and families in various counties in New Jersey. One example of this is the pantry she helped to create for her students and their families in Camden, New Jersey. Her most recent project has been serving the widows in her community.

In 2022 Valerie, affectionately known as ‘Gigi’ to her grandchildren, was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Valerie had endured misdiagnosis of this cancer for seven months while she withstood several doctor appointments, ER visits, unanswered questions and severe discomfort. It wasn’t until the cancer had become very aggressive that she was correctly diagnosed. Valerie went through her first rigorous bout with chemo, and had to take a break from her love of teaching special education students in Camden to commit to treating this illness. During this time, the beloved GiGi had to learn how to be taken care of, after a lifetime of serving and taking care of others. Her treatments, like most others in chemotherapy, took a lot of her strength and energy but she endured. After the first round of chemo, Valerie reluctantly retired from her dream job, and began feeling like herself again, one day at a time. Several months later Valerie learned that the cancer had not only returned, but spread to other organs, reaching Stage 4 diagnosis. At this point, she had to undergo more chemo and another invasive surgery to keep the cancer at bay. Valerie now continues with immunotherapy, and a new round of chemotherapy, but lives with the reality that this stage 4 cancer can spread further at any moment.

Here is how you can help! Valerie found a special place, called Hope for Cancer, in Mexico. This facility uses a holistic approach to treating cancer, along with collaboration of oncologists to ensure the best long-term outcome for patients. Health insurance does not cover this proven treatment, so we are asking for you to help us get Valerie to Hope for Cancer, where she will undergo a three-week treatment that will provide life-saving medicines and practices she can bring back home to New Jersey with her. Hope for Cancer also includes 12 months of aftercare services. The cost of this three-week treatment is nearing $100,000 and we need YOU to make this happen. Hope for Cancer has amazing documented positive outcomes from cancer patients in all stages and variations of cancer. Valerie has applied and been accepted to this treatment facility, but we need help to pay for this opportunity.
