Coroner's investigators have identified a Gary man who was found dead inside an automobile with a gunshot wound to his chest.
The man, Randall Knefel, 43, lived in the 4600 block of Arthur Street in Gary. He was found in a car at about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 3400 block of Grant Street.
Police were called by residents, and Knefel was discovered by officers in the car. Officials with the Lake County coroner's office were contacted, and they pronounced him dead at the scene at 10:20 p.m. His death has been determined to be a homicide, the coroner's office said.
Gary Police Department officials said in a prepared statement they believe the man was shot elsewhere, with his body then being left at the Grant Street location.
