George started his journey with renal cancer over a year ago when he went to his doctor for fatigue. Tests and scans revealed masses on both kidneys and nodules on his lungs. From there, he tackled cancer head-on with a Johns Hopkins kidney specialist, who developed his game plan for treatment, which he started in July 2024.
George handled treatment with the help of positivity, faith, strength, and family. “It’s gonna take more than Stage 4 cancer to keep me down!” As proof of that statement, not only has he continued to run a business creating and producing amazing exhaust systems at George’s Auto Barn, but he’s also continued his own personal therapy – working on race cars, racing at MIR when he can, and participating in car shows, while receiving immunotherapy and targeted treatment at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore every six weeks! Through it all, Leigh, Marissa and Dennis have been by George’s side, along with his new grandson Weston, and all of his friends and family, making sure he knows how much he’s loved and supported.
Therapy was moving in the right direction for about a year. George’s body had a good response to treatment, and there was noticable improvement in the tumors. While he hoped to be able to have surgery this summer, a stall in progress bumped that option a bit further down the road.
George’s surgery is now scheduled for October 10 to remove his right kidney and associated tumor. He will undergo another surgery to remove the left adreanal gland with an associated tumor, and then resume his current treatment for another year, leaving the door open for further surgeries/treatment as necessary.
Love and prayers are so important, but the cost of treatment and surgery is overwhelming and enormously stressful. This GoFundMe was created in an effort to take some of the burden off George and his family, so that he can concentrate on stress-free healing after surgery. The journey is not over, but with the help of family and friends, we can help George kick cancer’s ass!
