Turning to people for money has always been a hard thing for me to do. Pride is a weird thing and definitely a double edged sword. However, these past few months have been a bit of a rough patch for Clara and me and we feel we have exhausted almost all options to help weather the storm until things turn around at the end of next month.
If you don't know us personally, here is a few links with Clara's backstory on her entire accident and the aftermath of her tyring to be able to walk again:
Northampton teenager faces new challenges following loss of both legs in auto accident
How Clara Gardner of Northampton got back up on her own two feet.
As many of our friends may already know, Clara is in the middle of disputing her Social Secruity benfits. She is on the verge of losing them due to her no longer being considered "disabled" after she was determined to walk again in prothestics no matter what. It's for that very reason why she is no longer considered "disabled." Because she didn't want to have to use a wheelchair for the rest of her life, because she didn't want her accident to hold her back, she is being punished for it. While all this is going on, she is still attempting to finish college and find a job in between the vast amounts of medical appointments required to help get the prothetics to fit well.
While my main intent on making this was to help Clara, she has said that it only makes sense for me to give my background as well. I'm a former Combat Medic with the U.S Army and currently attending college as well. This past semster I revieved my Associates Degree in English and am planning to continue on in hope of completing an Occupational Therapy program. I am currently in between jobs from an EMT to working within the actual hospital. However, my new job does not start until middle of next month.
While Clara fights to appeal her benefits and I await to start my new job, there is currently no form of income between both of us. Between the gas to go to job interviews, cost of prescriptions not covered by insurance, the fees and costs that go along with signing up for the next school semester, money is drying up fast. While if it were just me to consider, I would never be the type to ask people for money. However, for Clara's sake, I feel any help would be welcomed as she attempts to get her life balanced once again. It asked for a donation goal, yet I don't even know what to put down. I settled on 1000, but in actuality, any dollar amount would help her out right now. 5 dollars would even go a long way to pay for gas to and back from her prothsetic appointments and job interviews. If you took the time to read this and donated, we both are incredibly grateful and thank you.
