Paralyzed Active Duty Veteran

I'm starting this account to raise funds for our family.

My husband, Jason, is a 13 year active duty Navy submariner based out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, my home. We met during his first tour here 10 years ago. We have been married for 7 of those years and have 4 children together, our youngest at only 6 months young. He has served on the USS Key West and the USS Texas.

On June 6th, our family went on an outing together to the beach, something that we do as often as we can. Unfortunately, it ended tragically. While body surfing and jumping through the waist high waves, my husband hit his head on the ocean floor immediately resulting in paralysis. I, with the help of a bystander, pulled him to shore. It was the scariest day of my life and has been unsettling for our children. He remains in hospital care now 2 1/2 months later receiving rehabilitation as a quadriplegic in California. We have been separated from our 3 older children since the accident as they remained at home with family. We miss them terribly.

We are working on adapting our lifestyle since we have no idea how much function my husband will ultimately regain. And in order to return home, there are several things we need. We will need to purchase a new vehicle with modifications in order to transport my husband in his power wheelchair. We also need to make modifications to our brand new home and want to be able to continue to afford our mortgage (as you can imagine, real estate in Hawaii is quite expensive).

To make matters worse, we received the unfortunate news that my mother-in-law unexpectedly passed away. She was less than 2 weeks away from visiting us to see Jason's progress. Now we are making last minute efforts to make it to Ohio for her service in just a couple of days. This is a huge task considering my husband's condition. He is not quite to the point of being independent. Therefore, we are needing to hire a caregiver in the area we are flying into, rent an accessible van for transportation and renting medical equipment.

I was very hesitant to reach out in this way, but many of the staff and friends have encouraged me to do so. I have a difficult time asking for help in any way, so please know how incredibly thankful I am to anyone who gives any amount. If you are unable to give financially, we very much appreciate prayers and positive thoughts. Please share if you can.
