Suicide Awareness Project

Donation protected
This year for our DECA project, we decided to choose the chapter project. For those who don’t know, DECA is a competitive club based on business, marketing and community service. Our project is specifically based on community awareness. It didn’t take long for us to come to agreement on the topic: Suicide Awareness. There has been a drastic increase in suicide this past year. Newly connected with Covid-19, suicide and mental health conditions have reached an all time high. On top of that, Westside has recently been impacted by a student suicide. For this project, we wanted to find a way to bring our community together during these hard times and fight against suicide.

Our main goal is to bring awareness in two different ways. The first goal is to host a suicide prevention walk that would safely bring the community together to fight against suicide. At this moment while we are still working out Covid-19 restrictions, the walk will either be in person or virtual. Along with the walk, we have plans for Debbie and Doug Fehr to come and talk to some Westside students about their story in January. The Fehrs were directly affected by suicide and continue to be involved in the Westside community. Finally on top of both planned events, we hope to raise enough money to donate to the Fehr family to fight against suicide.

In order to have the opportunity to spread suicide awareness in the Westside community, we would love any financial help that can be given.  Donations would go directly to the cost of putting on the walk, suicide prevention t-shirts, and donating to the Fehr family. We would appreciate and would be so thankful for any means of donation. We hope to see you on January 9th for the suicide prevention walk. More details to come!

Sincerely,
Suicide Prevention Team
