HELLO EVERYONE!
My name is Alexis Martinez Gutierrez, I am a visual artist and the creative director behind my brand XXX.
I am originally from Tijuana, Mexico and I'm currently based in Mexico city. A few days ago I received an invitation from the design coordinator of Vancouver Fashion Week (VFW) to be a part of this year's edition.
As a queer artist-designer-creative from Tijuana, this opportunity means the world to me. For the last 10 years of my life, I've been merging fashion design with my artistic practice, creating a series of wearable sculptures that are activated by performers and their surroundings. Money has always been the struggle to fully focus on my craft and develop my skills-abilities, but at the same time the lack of resources around me have made me creative and pushed me into finding ways to use those materials, creating a raw and impactful representation of my life experiences through clothing.
After speaking with the team at VFW they offered me a slot on this year's edition. We think this platform will help to develop my artistry-craftsmanship with unconventional materials, highlighting my conceptual-performative approach on fashion to take it to a whole other level.
As many of you know, participating-showing a collection at any fashion week in the world is by invitation only, these events are curated by people in the industry who provide a global platform to showcase emerging- established talents.
To cover the expenses of the creation of my new collection and my participation in this year's edition, I'm kindly asking for your support, to reach the amount of $10,000 USD ($200,000 MXN)
This amount will cover my participation fee of $7000 USD, which includes:
-A slot to showcase a new 12 piece collection during VFW this October.
-Hair and makeup.
-Models
-Media coverage.
-Access to fashion editors from FORBES, Harper 's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Vogue, ELLE, etc.
The remaining $3000 USD will cover my traveling expenses and the materials to create this new 12 piece collection thats going to be showcased between october 15th-19th.
As many of you know, i am the only person behind my brand, sewing, building, conceptualizing every idea. The fact that less than a year from presenting my first collection back in October 2024 in the most unofficial of ways, I got an invitation to really put myself out there on a global scale, is a full circle moment that I really need to take advantage of.
I really hope that you all can help me achieve this, not only for me but for my people, my city, my country.
