Support Brenda's Battle with Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
Hi everyone. My mom, Brenda Haefeli, was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2020. The doctors suspected stage 1 until surgery when they realized she was actually stage 4. Since that time, she's been on and off chemo. Anytime the test would show no cancer, it would creep back, and she would start the process again. Her cancer has progressed at a rapid rate over the last few months. It's in her colon, bladder, lungs, liver, stomach, lymph nodes, and it continues to spread. The week before Christmas, her oncologist told her they would be stopping chemo because it's not helping anymore and there's nothing else they can do. She's been in and out of the hospital at least 5 times since last month (November). She recently made the decision to go on hospice so her pain can be better managed and she can hopefully avoid the frequent hospital trips/stays.
Her husband, Chris, has been there every step of the way. Not only is he caring for my mom and worrying about her 24/7, but he's having to take care of everything else. He's unable to retire to care for my mom full-time because he'll lose their health insurance. Even with insurance, he's paying so much in medical bills that it's drowning him.
Unfortunately, I'm not in a place where I can help them financially, but I want to do something that might help alleviate some of their stress. I want them to be able to focus on her and her health and not worry about losing their home and the bills that keep piling up. They've never asked for help, and they probably never would. But they deserve so much better than the hand they've been dealt.
If you're not able to donate, please consider sharing. Any little bit helps and is so appreciated. Thank you.
