This year Girl Rising has chosen to raise money for Daraja Academy in Kenya, but we can't do it without you!
Daraja Academy is a boarding secondary school for Kenyan girls of poverty. The one thing all Daraja girls have in common is that they could not have gone to secondary school by any other means and they all have unique potential. They are talented, capable young women who simply lack access to the education that is necessary to help them break the cycle of poverty. Daraja Academy is their access to a quality secondary education and an improved quality of life. We provide programs at Daraja that focus on cultural awareness, social conscience, and environmentalism in addition to a rigorous academic curriculum. Daraja is one of the first completely free boarding secondary schools for girls in all of East Africa. Providing a boarding situation allows the girls to separate themselves from difficult issues at home and concentrate fully on obtaining the best education possible.
