Help Dobby get his surgery

2/23/22

Hi!
First off, thank you for taking the time to check out our fundraiser. It’s been an amazing few weeks with Dobby added to our family, and I’m happy to tell you all about him.

We adopted Dobby on 2/5/22 from the high-kill Baldwin Park animal shelter, where he was brought in as a stray on 1/30/22. Right away, the staff noticed that he wasn’t putting any weight on his rear right leg. Soon after, it was discovered that he had a pretty significant injury, but no way to tell how long he’s had it for.

As soon as we met him, we fell in love. He has the sweetest and most calm demeanor I’ve ever seen in a small breed, and it was obvious that he’d spent quite a bit of time on the streets because he wasn’t afraid of loud traffic, or any outside noises while we were out. We also kind of suspect that he may have been used in backyard breeding, because he wasn’t neutered. The vets we’ve seen so far estimate that he’s anywhere from 4.5-6 years old, but they can’t tell how long he’s had a broken leg.

The lovely surgeons at Inland Empire Veterinary Surgical Specialty advised us that amputation will be the best option. The total cost of his leg surgery and neuter come out to $3600, and so far every vet we’ve talked to is recommending that the neuter is done at the same time as the amputation (with the anesthesia and all), that’s why he wasn’t neutered at the shelter. Thankfully, his surgeon confirmed that he doesn’t really experience any pain, a sign that it may be old/healed, so we have time to plan for this financially, as well as prepare him for the healing process.

While we could use all the help we could get, we certainly can’t expect for the $3600 to be covered by you all. Care credit is not approving us for the full amount, but we have a little bit of a plan..

1) Raise $1000 for the down payment, surgery done same day
2) Remaining balance will go on care credit, where we have 6-12 months to pay it off (exact time frame will be confirmed when we take him in for surgery). I’ll keep the GoFundMe open through this time in case anyone is still able to contribute to the monthly payments. Not gonna lie, the interest rate is a little intimidating. Any little bit of help will be really, REALLY appreciated.

As we progress towards this goal, I’ll be keeping you all updated both here and on my IG, @skullsplitterr

Ultimately, we LOVE our little Dobby, and we don’t want him to have to deal with this anymore. It breaks our heart that he had to endure all the pain of living on the streets, getting injured, and somehow surviving through the pain of his broken leg for who knows how long. He deserves the all the love and comfort in the world, and we’re doing our best to give that to him now.

Thank you all for your support!
