Help Olivia Fight Cancer
on April 3rd Liz rushed Olivia to the ER as she was screaming in pain from an excruciating headache. After a CT Scan they found a 10cm tumor on the
left side of her brain. They were immediately
transported to Seattle Children's where she has
been receiving the most amazing care.
After they got things under control initially with an MRI and a drain in her skull to relieve the pressure, she was alert and responsive and was even
cracking jokes at her dad and mom’s expense. Overnight things got a bit spotty and and The next few days were full of overwhelming information an
consulting with the on call neuro surgeon, who just happened to be the chief of surgery and neuro,
they decided not to wait and monitor any longer
and to move up her brain surgery.
Olivia had a craniotomy and they were concerned about speech, vision, and mobility deficiencies and basicallyIt felt like FOREVER, but when they spoke
to the surgeon he said it went well. However after the initial look at the cells it seems like it could be
pretty aggressive and they sent biopsies to
pathology to verify whether the tumor was
cancerous and getting more scans post op. They
said the wouldn’t know more about the possibility of cancer until later that week.
Olivia had 2 drains in her head helping with the
pressure which made a huge difference in her
demeanor and pain overall.
Liz and Olivia’s dad spoke with the Neurology and Oncology team On April 8th and they did confirm that she has a high grade glioma (glioblastoma)
which is a very aggressive type of tumor and it
was/is cancer. This poor baby girl only 11 years old
Liz and Olivias dad are processing all of this information and trying to be as positive and strong as
possible for Olivia. It's important she see’s them
co-parent and communicate for her sake and They both are really proud of how they are handling all
of this and keeping an open line of communication.
Olivia is going to have to go through radiation and chemo which is starting as soon as next week. Liz
and Chris (Olivia’s dad) had a tele-meeting with
her radiation oncologist and we will be doing
targeted photon radiation therapy for 6 weeks
followed by chemo every 2 weeks after for at least the next year.
Their goal is to cure her of the tumor. They have
looked at and confirmed the odds and they are not great however anything is possible, miracles
happen daily. They are still choosing to focus on
the positive and spew rainbows and glitter in her
direction to keep her spirits up, however this is
going to be a really trying time for her and her
parents.
Olivia is sad and she misses her friends and family and then restrictions at the hospital due to covid-19 suck, but she's a fighter and we'll get through this together and hopefully she'll get back to as close to normal as possible as soon as we can.
Liz has not been able to work as she has been living at the hospital taking care of her baby girl. Liz has used up all of her PTO as she had recently changed jobs to better her and Olivia’s life. Her job is still
there and on hold for her however with the
unknown of the future and Cancer she is not sure when she will be able to return. There are still
bills coming in and huge expenses battling Cancer. I believe that all of us can make a difference and
help relieve some of Liz’s stress by financially
helping her through this time. I know things are
hard right now for all of us however I can’t even
begin to compare it to what Liz and Olivia are
going through.
Please know anything helps even if it’s just prayersThank you for taking the time to read this and
know that Liz and Olivia love you all and thank you for all of the support.
