Help bring Chromatics to life

Hi! We’re Annika Ferronato and Sydney Wong, two film students from Toronto Metropolitan University and the co-writers/directors of Chromatics. We’ve been developing this project together throughout the school year, and what started as a small summer collaboration with four Vancouver-based students has now grown into our most ambitious indie production to date.

LOGLINE: Chromatics is a 15-minute, stylized dystopian film about a student who transfers to an elite art school, only to discover it’s secretly exploiting its young creatives for profit. It’s movement-heavy, visually rich, and meant to explore the pressure placed on artists to be “original” in an increasingly commodified world.

We’re currently in pre-production and set to shoot at the end of June in Vancouver. We’re building this film from the ground up with a dedicated (and mostly student!) team — but we need your help to make it happen.

What we’re raising funds for:
  • Production Design & Props: to build a vivid, heightened world that feels like a fever dream (in the best way)
  • Costumes & Hair/Makeup: to craft eccentric, stylized looks that say “elite art school” and not “we raided Value Village in a panic”
  • Equipment/Rentals: industry-grade lighting, camera accessories, and grip gear
  • Meals/Crafty: because artists can’t thrive on ambition alone (and trust, we’ve tried)
  • Festival Submissions: so we can share Chromatics beyond our laptops at film festivals and screenings!
  • Insurance and all the technicalities: the not-so-glamorous but super important stuff that keeps our cast and crew safe

Why we’re making this:
Chromatics explores how the pressure to stand out has pushed creatives away from authentic self-expression, turning art into inauthentic products of consumerism. What once was rooted in exploration, identity, and personal vision, is now being increasingly shaped by algorithms, marketing trends, and constant rebranding.

This film is inspired by a range of current social issues including the rise of AI, fast fashion, the performative nature of social media, and the demand for artists to be not just creators, but brands. At its core, Chromatics is a cautionary story about what happens when capitalism seeps too deeply into the creative process.

We want this film to spark reflection: What constitutes originality? And in a world built to monetize everything, is it still possible to make art that’s just… art?

As young artists, this story is particularly close to our hearts. We hope that with Chromatics, we can translate these themes in a way that emotionally resonates with others.

Any donation, big or small, brings us closer to realizing this vision. If you’re unable to give, sharing this link is also appreciated.

Thank you so much for your support.

With gratitude,
Annika & Sydney
