Daniel has kept this to himself for a long time because there is so much hurt behind this part of his life and this man. I only hope to say the words that he cannot. He just found out that Keith Fields, his biological father, passed away last week at his home in Texas. Keith has not been a part of Daniel's life in many years, as he was abandoned by him as a young child. As the only available next of kin, Daniel was notified and has been overwhelmed with making decisions and taking care of arrangements as well as taking on the emotional toll that comes along with it all.
Beyond the hurt and the pain that was caused by Keith walking out of Daniels life, Keith continued down a dark road that is now left for Daniel to navigate. He had another son that he also abandoned. Keith made a lot of bad decisions, got into unimaginable trouble, and had a lot of people in his life who only wish to make this process more difficult than it already is. There is so much uncertainty of what might come our way moving forward here.
As much as Daniel would like to wash his hands of this and not open this door again, there is somone that he deeply cared for that he wants to advocate for--Keith's mother, "Memaw." She made a huge impact in Daniels life as a child. She took care of him and protected him from Keith and the hurt he caused as much as she possibly could. Keith did not treat her like he should, but she still loved him more than anything in this world. Daniel feels that it is his due diligence to his Memaw to take Keith's ashes to rest next to her in their hometown in Indiana. He knows that is what she would want. He would also like to create an opportunity for Keith's family in that area to say thier goodbyes.
I am sharing this story on Daniel's behalf because processing all of this has been very difficult for him. However, he, and we, want our friends and family to know what he is battling and we are asking for your support. The decisions we are making, the legalities we are facing, and the complex web of hur that keeps getting bigger and bigger has taken quite a toll on us. All of this has been quite a shock to say the least and something that we were absolutely not prepared for in any sense.
Above all else, are asking for prayers for guidance and peace in all of this. It is my prayer that healing will come from this someday. We are trusting the Lord and His will during this time and finding comfort in the moments where we can feel him working.
