- Hi, my name is Nicci, and I am fundraising for my Brother Tony Cartwright. Tony was diagnosed with Epilepsy 9 yrs ago. Now Epilepsy is a umbrella term for any neurological disturbances that results in the abnormal firing of electrical impulses to parts of the brain. My Brother has a type of epilepsy called Temporal lobe Hippocampus Sclerosis. At the age of 34 (he is now 43.) he had his first grand mal seizure that has changed his life forever. The seizures are so violent that it has dislocated his collarbone several times,(which he will have to have surgery for if we can get his seizures under control). He has bit through his tongue, received numerous bumps and bruises and unimaginable, pain, and suffering. He has been told that he cannot work or drive. With each seizure his memory and comprehension is diminishing. Every seizure he has can result in death.
- In the past nine years, they have tried every medication available. Tony is at the point where the best option is to have a surgery called Temporal Lobe Ectomy. This is a procedure where a Neurosurgeon will saw open his skull and remove the scar tissue. He will be in the hospital for 3 to 5 days if everything goes as planned. A week of bed rest at home and months of recovering. This surgery can potentially cure my Brother of this horrific medical condition!! Of course, Tony is extremely worried about his future and financial responsibilities. If I can take this burden off of him I would be forever grateful.
