Steven “Bomber” Neal is a retired/disabled military member who recently became the victim of identity theft and is in dire need!
If you don’t know the Neals, they’re a hard working family. They’re known by their family and friends to be a giving family. They’re always willing to and will not hesitate to help others in any way they can. If you know Steven personally, you know that he will have your back in any way, shape or form. Steven is also due to have surgery to replace both his shoulders from injuries which were sustained during his nearly 20 years of active military service. Steven works with his hands for a living and will not be able to get right back to work after his surgeries. If you know them personally, have served with Steven or just understand that this family is in need and would be willing to help, we would greatly appreciate it. Sometimes the people who deserve help are least likely to ask. Steve did not set up this account, his friends have set it up for him because we know that he would not ask for help but when he sees the outpouring of love and support, we know he will not only accept our help but will be so grateful and pay it forward to others in need. Your financial assistance and your prayers are sincerely appreciated. Any amount that you can give will help!
Here’s what their current situation is: Over the last few months, Steven and his family, saved all of their income from his retirement/disability on his Direct Express (more info at the bottom) pay card. They were saving this money for their roof to be replaced (next month before Winter comes) and other bills they needed to pay. Their last automatic deposit was verified into the account on September 1st ($3K) and a pending deposit was due on September 3rd ($1K) which would have brought the account to a total of $8.5K. They thought leaving their money in that pay card was safe and more convenient should an emergency arise. They also knew that withdrawing large amounts from a bank could be burdensome. They were able to save this money up by only using other sources of income for their expenses over the last few months.
On September 2nd, while trying to access their account, they found that they were now locked out. Steven had been using this account for a few years and had never had any issues with his user ID, password or login method. The only thing that had changed with his account was a recent issue of a "chip" card. Steven even attempted to reset his password by requesting a password reset; however, he did not receive that.
At this point anyone would start to panic! Steven attempted to check his balance at the ATM, which stated ZERO! It was confirmed when he was finally able to reach Direct Express over the phone after many hours of trying. When they were finally able to reach them, Direct Express Customer Service told Steven that they could put the account on “permanent block”. Unfortunately, the process with this kind of situation could take weeks (if not months). Direct Express told Steven that they would look a the account in 5 days to determine if he will be allowed back into the account and that records could not be released for 10-15 days. This has left the Neals feeling like their funds can’t be tracked and Direct Express cannot remedy the situation at this time.
Steven has reported these events to local law enforcement and is working with them and multiple other channels to track down the funds. However, it is unclear if Direct Express will replace their funds as it was suggested that the Neals would have to take the identity thieves to court to recover their funds.
*Direct Express is the recommended company for receiving funds from the Department of Treasury and the Social Security Administration. However, if you google them, you will find that this is not the first time they’ve had this kind of issue come up with their customers. Unfortunately for the Neals, this information only became known to them after their account was compromised.
Help us pour out love and support to Steven and his family during this ordeal! Again, your financial assistance and your prayers are sincerely appreciated. Remember, any amount that you can give will help!
