It is with a very heavy heart, I write this about my mother, Dolores.
Dolores Marcella McManus Taijeron, loving mother of seven children went in for a routine check up early February, and several tests later she was diagnosed on April 18th, 2019 with Liver Cancer.
On February 2019 - Her Lab results came back showing her white blood cells and platelets are critically low. [platelets help the blood clot so you don't bleed to death, and white blood cells fight off infections.]
The average platelet count is anywhere from 150,000 to 450,000
My mothers platelet count....only 19,000 (critically low)
**Ultrasound, MRI, CT Scan and a referral to see an Infectious Disease Specialist was set up**
On April 18th, 2019- Her doctor read the MRI results and diagnosed our mother, with Liver Cancer. She was referred for off-island treatment for the cancer as well as Hep C and Hep B Treatment.
On May 10th, 2019 - The Specialist read her Ultrasound, MRI, CT Scan & blood test results. The results are she has Esophageal varices which are abnormal enlarged veins in the tube that connects the throat and stomach (esophagus). The Specialist confirmed her spleen being enlarged and that the obstructed vein can burst at any time. This condition occurs most often in people with serious liver diseases. Esophageal varices develop when normal blood flow to the liver is blocked by a clot or scar tissue in the liver.
How serious is esophageal varices?
Bleeding esophageal varices occur when swollen veins in your lower esophagus rupture and bleed. The esophagus is the muscular tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. This can lead to sever bleeding and life-threatening complications, including death.
Those who know Dolores would vouch for her being the most loyal of friends, peaceful, selfless, and a joyful mother of seven and grandmother of nine. So, it's really hard knowing and watching your mother in pain daily full of (migraines, excruciating abdomen pain, painful swollen legs (unable to walk most days), random bruising, exhausted mid-day, and out of breathe. This sudden diagnosis has been devastating to Dolores and all of our family.
Dolores will need off-island Hep C and Hep B treatment and Surgery for Liver Cancer. Treatment, Medications, Surgery and Recovery is expensive. Any small donation would go a long way to save her and help towards the expenses of this Life-Threatening disease. Please keep us all in your prayers.
Thank you,
Ramona McManus (eldest child of Dolores Marcella McManus Taijeron)
