Hygiene Kits for Refugee Families
Donation protected
My name is Sandy, and a few months ago I met Rasha Abousalem, who had just returned from a relief trip from Lesvos, Greece. Rasha is part of an international relief agency called Global First Responder (GFR), which is a small local organization that was founded in 2011. GFR is operated by the time and dedication of its volunteers, allowing 100% of donations to go towards purchasing items needed for their relief trips, including medical supplies and humanitarian aid.
As many of you know, countless refugees from countries such as Syria, and Afghanistan (but also from Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Palestine, Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan) have been forced to flee their homes to escape war; literally running for their lives.
On her last trip, Rasha went to Lesvos, the Greek island across from the Turkish border that is receiving the largest amounts of rafts full of refugees; rafts that are clearly packed passed their capacity. Just about every incoming raft holds babies and children, including one raft from which Rasha was handed a 4-day old baby. Once on land, refugees are directed towards several different refugee camps, at which Rasha handed out hygiene kits, clothes, and toys for children.

After I connected with Rasha, and listened to her gut wrenching stories about those who are forced to leave their homes in order to ensure the safety of their families, I was determined to get involved. I decided to help her gather items for her upcoming humanitarian aid trip to the severely under-served refugee camp in Calais, France.

This particular refugee camp is commonly referred to as "the Jungle" due its terrible conditions. It is home to roughly 7,000 men, women, and children. Many children are unsupervised, and many refugees in the camp are too sick to leave their tents.
From January 8-16th, Rasha will join a team of medical and humanitarian volunteers to provide aid and assistance to those refugees that the world has seemed to forgotten about. GFR volunteers will provide clothing and hygiene kits to as many people as they can.
This is where I need your help! Hygiene kits are essential for the arriving refugees, as they often arrive with nothing other than the clothes on their backs.
All funds collected through this GoFundMe campaign will go solely toward the purchase of bulk items to fill the hygiene kits.
Hygiene kits will contain important personal items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, feminine pads, sanitizer, diapers, baby bottles, and pacifiers. I will personally purchase these items, and put together the hygiene kits.
Let us work together to provide for those that so desperately need help!
