Caring For Ciara
Donation protected
On the morning of April 8, 2021 Tracie and Lexi found Ciara unresponsive in her bedroom. Tracie gave her CPR and Lexi called 911. Ciara was rushed to the hospital, where it was discovered that she had taken a medication that had caused her to have a heart attack. She was transported by ambulance to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. Ciara's family and team of doctors waited to see if the medication would wear off.
Unfortunately on Friday morning, Ciara went into Code Red with three cardiac arrests. The family was informed that they should call relatives because she would most likely not make it through the day, and if she did she would most likely be brain dead. Miraculously, Ciara survived and has been fighting every day since then to get back to "Ciara." Her doctors are calling her a miracle.
Her parents have been by her side every day and night. They switch places every night so there is someone that can be home with Lexi. Phil has been working from the hospital and home as much as possible, and Tracie is unsure when she will be able to return to work.
Ciara is a fighter! She has slowly learned how to walk and talk again, but she has a very long road ahead of her. The people who love the Gunning family want to try to ease the financial burden that goes along with having a child in the hospital for an extended period of time.
