Lori's Stem Cell Fund
Donation protected
My name is Kevin Saunders and I am trying to raise $6900 for my wife, Lori Saunders, to have a procedure done at the Stem Cell International in Toledo, Ohio.
Lori was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2001. She has progressive MS, which means that the disease will always be getting worse.
Lori has not been able to work since August of 2012, so our income has been cut dramatically. She hasn’t been able to walk on her own for a few years. It is steadily getting worse.
Last year her brother Mike gave her a walk-aid. The walk-aid is an electronic device that is strapped to her right leg that shoots electronic jolts into the leg that lifts her foot up so her right leg doesn’t drag when she walks. The walk-aid helps her walk with her walker, but doesn’t help with her balance. Nor does it give any extra strength.
The MS makes it hard for her whole body to function. Especially her right side. She has adopted to using her left hand for most everything. It is hard for her to stand just so she can try to walk.
On February 24 when we were heading into the grocery store during a winter storm she fell just in front of the doors. There was a man there to help me pick her up. Once up, I had to untwist her legs so she could stand. She had fallen into a puddle of icey salt water and her feet and legs were soaked. Falling is just one of the things she has to put up with. MS also affects her in many other different ways.
The Stem Cell International is a place in Toledo where the doctor will remove about 2/3 of an ounce of fat from her thigh and take the stem cells from that and put back into her body through an infusion. This procedure takes about 4 hours. Then after about a month she will start to see improvements within her body. Insurance will not cover the expense of this treatment.
The doctor there said that it can repair her myelin that protects her nervous system. This is a life changing procedure that will enable her to walk and live a more normal life again. For people with MS, this procedure has been very successful.
Because she has progressive MS, this treatment is very important. Without the treatment, her nervous system will continue to deteriorate and she will not be able to function at all in the years to come.
We very much appreciate any donation that you can give. Hopefully we can get enough money so we can get this done within a time when she can still function.
Thank you so much in advance for your donations and for listening to our story. Keep the faith. Kevin & Lori Saunders. 2/27/16.
