Michael’s Medical Fundraiser

August 3rd Michael was diagnosed with pneumonia. His primary DR treated him with antibiotics and sent him home. Over the course of the next couple weeks, he wasn’t improving, only getting worse. We continued to go to his primary Dr, along with Boone Hospital, and The University Hospital for weeks with no answers, just told “it takes time for the antibiotics to work”.

On August 15th Michael started throwing up blood, was to weak to walk or even drink water. He couldn’t breathe. He could barely move.

August 16th he was admitted to The University, where he spent the following 28 days in the ICU. He had bilateral pulmonary embolisms. He had multiple blood clots in both lungs and one on the right side of his heart. He was drowning in his own blood. The 28 days in the ICU were as long as you could imagine. Multiple cat scans, X-rays, blood cultures, everything you could think of, they tested him for. The Drs didn’t understand why a former healthy 22 year old was dying and nothing was helping.

September 8th and 9th Michael had two heart attacks. His heart rate got up to 268 bpm and they had to hook him to a defibrillator and inject him with medicine to slow his heart rate back down. Something that his DRs described will make him feel like he was literally suffocating. His heart was and still is very weak. It has constant pressure pushing on his valves making his heart work 2x as hard as normal.

Finally a miracle hit us and Michael started improving. The DRs didn’t know why but they were going with it. His blood thinners were finally working. His oxygen levels started going back up, he was gaining strength to sit up, and he could finally eat again. We thought things were starting to look up for us.

He was home for 10 days. We were SO HAPPY to have him home.

Then on September 22nd an ambulance took Michael back to The University, where he still is currently after another week and a half. He had two collapsed lungs with an infection completely filling his right lung. The Drs still can’t figure out what is causing the infection. He has two chest tubes in, and will continue to have them in until his surgery. Surgery won’t be for at least another two weeks, and will be to fix the air leaks he has in each lung.

The past two months have not been fair to Michael and I. In the duration of his stay we had our baby girl. Something we never imagined he wouldn’t be present for. He’s not only missed her birth but also the first month of her life now. Something he will never get back.

It’s been challenging to say the least, but we are doing our best with what we can. Emotionally, physically and financially we are struggling. Hospital bills are piling up, as well as our day to day bills. I have never been one to ask for help but we truly need it at this point. Anyone who has stayed in the hospital knows how crazy expensive everything is, and we’ve been here for months. Michael won’t be able to return to work for a very long time. If you can’t donate, please share. And continue to pray for Michael. He is far from being back to his normal.

Thank you ❤️
