Suthagar's Heart Surgery

Dear Friends & Family,

I would like to share a story about my friend Suthagar whom I have known since 2004. He hails from a middle-class agricultural family from a small town V.K. Puram in the Tirunelveli District in the Tamilnadu state in India. He completed his M. Phil and soon a Ph.D. in Endocrinology from the University of Madras, India. He is expected to defend his thesis for his Ph.D. within the next several months. He is someone who helped make each day a little better by just being there. His good nature and positive attitude was evident throughout his work and studies and was something that translated into his personal life as well. Suthagar has been married to his wife and also the loving father of   two young kids, a 6 yr old boy, and 3 yr old girl. He provides for his family in all ways - not only monetarily, but also as a father, husband, role model, and most importantly, as a friend. Suthagar is what you would consider a model familyman.

It would appear that Suthagar has the perfect life but as everyone knows, life is NOT perfect. In December 2013, Suthagar was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a very rare autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system.  With this development, he has naturally incurred a substantial debt due to the amount of drugs he has to take daily in order to keep this disease at bay. Even though Suthagar has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, he has not let it define his life as he tries to see the positive in every situation especially knowing it could always be worse. But this diagnosis has forced him to alter his dreams of moving overseas to purse a post-doctoral position. Therefore, Suthagar has decided to stay in India and accepted a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology at Hyderabad, India.

Just as Suthagar thought life was improving, on May 1, 2017, disaster struck again. After suffering for several weeks of mild chronic chest pain, Suthagar decided to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist where he was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit of Angel Heart Centre at Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu. They discovered that he has a 90% blocked coronary artery due to the Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Suthagar ultimately needs immediate cardiac bypass surgery to restore normal blood flow and function of the heart. This is where I kindly ask and implore those who are reading for help with the financial burden that Suthagar and his family will face. Many know that cardiac bypass surgery is NOT cheap and any donation —big or small—will help. The goal for this crowd funding is to secure US$5,000 which is approximately 300,000 INR. This amount will greatly aid in his medical expenses as well as relieve some emotional stress.

Thank you for your time in reading this post and I ask that you also keep Suthagar and his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.

The goal in setting up this account is to relieve some of the financial burden and emotional stress on Suthagar and his family.
