A Crisis Beyond Measure: Help Needed to Save Our Home
Hello everyone,
I'm writing this with a weight on my chest and a sense of desperation I've never known. I am a single father of two beautiful children, and right now, we are facing the very real possibility of losing our home.
Our family crisis began in May when I took on the intense, round-the-clock role of primary caregiver for my beloved grandmother, who is battling advanced Alzheimer's and Dementia.she had been financially exploited, abused and neglected.
The stress was immediate and overwhelming, leading me to a necessary medical leave from work.
The truth is, the sheer pressure of juggling it all led to a breakdown. To manage the profound emotional and mental toll, I now have to take medication daily just to stay focused and continue providing care for everyone in my household.
Then, in July, our world was shattered by a drastic event: my children’s mother was shot. While, thankfully, she survived, her recovery placed an unexpected and enormous additional burden on me. I had to allow her to move in to heal, which meant an extra mouth to feed and care for just as my own finances were collapsing.
The financial crisis began when my partial paid medical leave ran out completely at the end of July. For months now, I have been living and caring for three adults and my two children without any reliable income.
To make matters worse, I had been in the process of opening a gift shop, an exciting venture into which I had invested a significant amount of my savings. Due to the sudden and overwhelming caregiving demands and financial collapse, I have since had to close down and cancel that plan for now, representing a devastating personal and financial loss.
I am fighting this with everything I have. When I can, I drive for Uber, but my main effort is using the talent I have: I bake. I've been selling cakes and even started a small campaign to try and raise the money we need to bridge this gap. I'm putting in every hour I can, but the amount required to keep our home is simply too large for me to make alone.
Even while facing all of this—managing a health crisis, a shooting recovery, and the threat of eviction—I still find ways to give back to my community, because I truly believe someone always has it worse than me. Reaching out like this is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I have exhausted all other options.
My scheduled return to work date is December 9th, 2025, gives us a light at the end of the tunnel. But until that first paycheck comes, we are in a devastating financial and emotional gap.
I am scared. I am exhausted. I am managing a full-blown crisis, and I am humbly asking for your help to keep a roof over my children's heads.
