Simba’s Emergency Medical Costs
Donation protected
3 days ago Simba was doing just fine and is now fighting for his life. There's only one anomaly. Friday evening I put a topical flea and tick medication on him and symptoms began within a couple hours. Vomiting, fatigue, not eating or drinking, and by Sunday morning passing blood. When we made it to the vet in Waynesville (Junaluska Animal Hospital & Urgent Care) Sunday morning I thought I was losing him as he laid on the table and had a seizure. They stabilized him as much as they could, gave him IV fluids, and ran bloodwork. We were told his kidney levels were much higher than they should be, he may have an infection, and he should be transferred to a 24 hour animal hospital. We went immediately. He has been hospitalized since Sunday afternoon at SAVES (South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialists). He’s had seizures, there’s a possible kidney stone and kidney failure, and some level of heart injury. They’re calling him their little mystery right now because nobody can understand why he became so sick so fast when he had been acting normal. To be honest it’s hard not to blame myself because even though all the vets don’t feel like it’s the medication I put on him, I still do. Right now as of writing this at 8:49pm on Monday August 12th his kidney levels have improved compared to what they were yesterday. He is continuing to receive IV fluids, has now had a tube placed for additional fluids and nutrition, is getting antibiotics for infection, and may also start steroids. There have been no other major seizures observed since yesterday. Today he was having focal facial seizures while we visited him. We’ve been told those are not something they are worried about right now, only grand mal seizures. We got to spend a couple hours with him today and they said that is the most vocal he’s been. He knew right away it was us when they brought him to us and he purred the most when Wyatt would pet him. His overall appearance has improved some slowly, but he is still very sick. There’s way to know which way this will go because they still don’t know why it’s happened. But the most important thing right now is he’s not giving up. He’s not out of the fight yet and as long as he’s showing some signs of improvement and not giving up we won’t give up on him! Please, please, share his gofundme. If you feel led to give even $1 is helpful. He’s our spoiled rotten furbaby we all love to death and don’t want to imagine our family without him. Thank you so much for reading if you made it all the way through this and we truly appreciate any support we can get to help him fight!
