My mother’s home, my childhood home, caught fire today. Fortunately, the hero’s that work for the Hazard Fire Department arrived in time to save the house; however, massive damage had already been inflicted on her kitchen. The ceiling was completely destroyed along with the floors and several broken windows. We don’t know the full extent just yet, but it will certainly be much worse. Thank God that everyone is safe, as well as her sweet dogs and cat. Now she, my siblings, and I are left to pick up the pieces and figure out what to do next. Her kitchen and house are a staple of Hazard with almost 4 decades of parties and holiday meals enjoyed here. I am sure many of you reading this probably have a warm memory of her chili on Halloween or poolside potlucks in the summer. Luckily, she has homeowners insurance, but the deductible is high, and I am not able to fully assist her right now. I am asking for a little help to get my mom’s house back in order; whatever you are able to donate will be so appreciated by my family.
