Hi, my name is Nicola, I am fundraising on behalf of my husband Ashley.
Ashley is a 36 year old male, he is a husband and a father to 2 beautiful sons Isaac and Abel.
Our world was turned upside down in August 2021 when Ashley was given a devastating diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. 87% of his blood were cancer cells. He was admitted to hospital right away for treatment, 28 days turned into 5 long months, only seeing his children once in that time period, and that was only approved because our oldest son who has autism tried to throw himself down a flight of stairs because he didnt understand were his dad was and what was happening.
A chemo drug in the Induction neally cost Ashley his life, one injection caused his pancreas to become very inflammed, it bled and caused a fistula which attached itself to his intestine, this become infected and had to be drained, over 1000ml of pus came out. The fistula went on and caused sepsis around 7 times, Ashley refused to be sent home until it was sorted, surgeons came and fitted a stoma bag October 2022 to give his stomach a break.
Ashley managed to get into remission after the Induction chemo, and went on to have 3 more intense cycles then reached Maintance August 2022. Ashley has had alot of infections the last 2 years with the added stomach issues, hes had more then the average cancer patient does. Each time he gets an infection his treatment is put on hold.
January 2023 he was admitted for 5 weeks and nobody knew what was wrong with him, he was sent home in severe pain, I rang his doctor and told them my husband is not right you need to see him, they had him back the next day for bloods, he relapsed, his cancer had returned to 44%. We had the tough decision of giving up or fighting, giving up wasnt an option for Ashley. He was admitted right away for more chemo. The 1st cycle took him to below 1% the 2nd didnt work even though he is still below 1% the hospital want to give up on him, they said he doesnt qualify for bone marrow transplant.
We have challenged this decision asking for ANYTHING we can do which will get him to 0% so he can have a transplant which would save his life.
At the moment we are seeking a 2nd opinion for futher treatment or trials, we absolutely hate asking for anything off anyone, but i want to be able to tell my children i did EVERYTHING in my power to help their dad. Ashley doesnt want to sit back and give up when he is currently in remission, but over time (weeks/months) without treatment, the leukemia will invade all his cells and kill him.
I have set this up to help with private consaltations and making last memories as a family.
Please consider sharing Ashley's story and contribute anything if you can. Thank you for reading.
