In January, 2020 I will take my fourth trip to Lesvos, Greece to teach unacommpanied minors and adults who are refugees stranded there. The escalating crisis in Syria is creating a new surge of displaced people fleeing their country. The numbers are rivaling those at the peak of the refugee crisis in 2016.
2016 was our first year, teaching in Moria Refugee Camp and Kara Tepe Refugee Camp. Since then we have formed a nonprofit-Refugee Education and Learning International (REAL) that sends educators year-around to ensure that these smart, resilient, yet traumatized people continue to learn. Our volutneers work at five sites offering classes in English, math, science, yoga, etc.
