Joey Karabin, who passed away on January 24, 2013, is still in the thoughts, prayers, and hearts of all who have ever met him. Joey was an incredibly thoughtful, loving, kindhearted person who always put other people before himself.
This Saturday, June 29th, I will be running the War at the Shore Olympic Triathlon in memory of Joey. Why a triathlon? Aside from being an amazing person, Joey was also a 3-sport athlete throughout his life playing football, baseball, and basketball - the 3 activities in the triathlon (swimming, biking and running) will represent Joey's 3 sports. Joey's favorite number was 22, which is also the age that he would have been this year, and during the triathlon I will be biking 22 miles.
To make sure that Joey is with me during the race, I will be running and biking in a pair of Joey's shoes that were given to me by his family at the time of his death. Although his size 13 shoes are a bit larger than my shoe size (Joey was notorious for having "Raptor feet" as many of us joked with him), I want to ensure that he is there with me throughout the entire journey.
I would like to raise funds to create a scholarship memorializing Joey that will be given out to a 3 sport athlete at Delaware Valley Regional Highschool (male or female) who demonstrates the integrity, kindness, and love for sports that Joey once did. I hope to continue this scholarship year after year to ensure that Joey's name lives on at Del Val. Please consider using this gofundme to donate in support of this cause. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for your donations!
