Wheelchair for Dawn Bailey
33 years ago my parents met their best friends. A couple that would be there for them always. They were newlyweds together, new pastors together, new parents together. The Bailey’s have been there since the Rhodes family began.
In 2006, their journey with
leiomyosarcoma, a rare smooth muscle cancer began. It was on Dawn’s broad ligament (between the uterus and pelvis); it was removed in conjunction with an umbilical hernia repair, followed 7 weeks later by a complete hysterectomy and lymph node removal. This was followed by five weeks of radiation.
All seemed well until 2018, when it recurred in her right lung. A PET scan showed that there were spots in her lung but didn’t show up anywhere else, and so she underwent a thoracotomy to remove the tumors. Fast forward to this past January. Dawn had progressive numbness from her feet up to her rib cage, so David took her to their local hospital ED in Tuscaloosa. An MRI showed a tumor on her spine. Dawn was then transferred by ambulance to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for surgery and rehab post-surgery. David and Dawn are prayerfully hopeful that this leg of their cancer journey has been successfully dealt with, and that two recurrences are all that they will experience with leiomyosarcoma.
Due to the fact that Dawn will be coming home in a wheelchair, we are attempting to raise funds to pay for her wheelchair. Her therapists have determined the best wheelchair for her will be like the one she’s currently using at the rehab center. The cost of that wheelchair is not covered by their healthcare.
The Bailey’s have blessed our life and many of yours as well. This is a great way to show themyou care and be the means that the Lord uses to provide for their needs in this time. Thank you!!
