I have Cancer, but Cancer doesn't have me!

Hi, my name is Bianca, I'm a 42-year-old Mom of 3, and in early February '24 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My family doesn't have a big history of it, and I was shocked to find it after my first mammogram ever. In my last conversation with my mother before she passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly in November, she encouraged me to not move my appointment when I told her how busy I was leading up to it. Because of her, I kept the appointment and I truly believe it's a conversation that changed my life.

Despite having insurance, the out-of-pocket costs have already added up and my treatment plan involves multiple rounds of chemotherapy (both before and after surgery), at least two more surgeries including a double mastectomy as I have the BRCA2 gene mutation which greatly increased my odds of breast cancer, and radiation. Because of all this, I know my family will need help to get through the year to cover medical costs, home supports, and loss of some pay as the I will eventually have to take time off and go on leave when I run out of PTO and sick days at some point this year.
