Finding out that someone you work with has cancer can be difficult. If you’re very close to the person with cancer you wonder how you can show your concern and offer your help.
Our friend and coworker Garry Phipps has recently been diagnosed with a fast growing, rare form of terminal renal cancer. He has been told to prepare to not spend Christmas with his wife Helen, his 7-year old son Sydney and 10-year old daughter Hannah.
A top Morse Code operator, Garry moved his family from Detroit to Homer to find a better life in 2011. He was immediately hired as a Station Agent for Ravn Alaska. Everyone knows him as the guy with the New Zealander accent. “No worries, Mate, I’ll take care of it”, is his answer to everything.
Many employees have generously donated PTO to Garry. Many other employees that do not have PTO to donate also want to help. We have created this GoFundMe account to allow those that want to, and can, a way to help. As Garry and his family spend their last days together creating family memories while wading through the medical quagmire of cancer, we are hoping to offer help by creating this financial fundraiser. Garry is a proud man. He loves his wife and children more than anything. Please help us help our friend and coworker. Your donations, large or small, are greatly appreciated.
