Bring Judy Home
Donation protected
In early January of this year our mom, Judy, suffered a burst aneurysm and two subsequent strokes that left her completely paralyzed on her left side and unable to speak, feed herself or walk. Our mum has always been the glue that held us all together... she always puts everyone (and I mean everyone) before herself. When her landlady's house burned, mum was there, cleaning out the mess and logging the damage; if someone had a new baby and no money, mum brought clothes and diapers; if she heard you needed food, she showed up with a trunk full...it didn't matter if you were her child or a stranger: people in need were her thing. And mum never had a lot of money..she just made things happen... somehow... with her endless tenacity and huge heart.
Now our mum is the one in need.
For 6 months we have watched her struggle to communicate from within a body that refuses to obey, watched this woman with an amazing artistic talent cry in frustration as she wrestled with the logistics of performing a simple 'thumbs up', watched her shrink from 140 lbs to 105.
And despite all of the well-meaning comments from medical staff that 'this may well be her last admittance', mum refuses to give up...and so do we.
We are finally at a place where we can bring mum home to get better, among her children and 10 grandchildren. The catch? Mum's house has old electrical that will not support the machines required. Currently the breaker box overloads daily and cuts all of the power..something that cannot happen while she's hooked up to it. The house also has a lot of knob and tube wiring that needs to be replaced.
Neither my sister and I are good at asking for help..but this isn't for us..it's for our mom. Please help us bring her home. ❤
