Setback After Setback—We're Struggling to Stay Afloat

Hi, my name is Pamela Rotan, and this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write.
Last year, I was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome—a condition that left me unable to walk. I went from being independent to needing help with everything almost overnight. For months, I couldn’t walk, couldn’t function normally, and needed full-time care.
Just as I started to make progress, I was hospitalized again—this time with encephalopathy. It impacted my memory, my cognition, and my physical recovery. I’ve now had to restart much of the healing process, and it’s been devastating.
We’ve fallen behind on everything.
Because of these illnesses, I haven’t been able to work, and my family has had to focus on my care and survival. The bills have stacked up—rent, utilities, transportation to appointments, medications, food—basic needs we can no longer afford on our own.
We’re trying to raise $15,000 to:
Catch up on rent and keep our home
Cover transportation to and from doctor and therapy appointments
Put food on the table during this difficult time
I’m still fighting—but I need help.
I didn’t ask for this, and I wouldn’t be asking now if I had another choice. I’m still doing physical therapy, still dealing with pain and brain fog, and still trying every day to take steps forward. But we’ve hit a wall financially, and we can’t push through it alone.
If you can donate, no matter the amount, please know it will go directly toward our survival and stability. If you can’t give, please consider sharing this with someone who might.
From the bottom of my heart—thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping me keep going.
