Update: Hi, we are restarting our fundraising because Amberly has had a complication from her surgeries and will have to get surgery for a large hernia on Wednesday July 19, 2023. The surgeon said we should expect a 5 day hospital stay and for her to be recovering and out of work for at least two months. We have done what we can between us to pay down the medical debt and pay living expenses and pay for medicines, but because Amberly was out of work for a year and only just returned, she is overwhelmed by the expenses she will be facing. Every gift counts tremendously and with your help we can alleviate this long and hard situation. We are already so grateful for all the donations and prayers and good thoughts, and we did not expect to have to renew asking again. You have helped us so much already so far and we are so grateful.
Hi, My name is Ashleen and I made this go-fund me for my sister, Amberly Kelly, who has had a series of serious medical problems in 2022 after having complications from diverticulitis, including a perforated bowel that resulted in sepsis and two surgeries. What was supposed to be a three day hospital stay with recovery at home has turned into a nearly three week (and still ongoing) hospital stay. She is currently in stable condition in Methodist Hospital after getting a colostomy, but when she is able to come home at some point in the future we know that she will be unable to return to work as a hairstylist for a period of time while she recovers.
On Tuesday April 12 the doctors will determine whether to start more treatment to control the infection or whether the treatment she will finish on Monday was successful. A lot is up in the air, but we do know that so far, she has had two ER visits, two surgeries and two separate hospital stays (one still ongoing). All of this has wiped out her savings, and she has been unable to work because she is sick. She will have at least two more surgeries within the next fifteen months (one to remove the colostomy bag and one to fix a leaking heart valve damaged during her illness). She has been on medical leave since January and will likely be out of work until at least June.
Our family is contributing as much as we can, but in the face of medical expenses and the fact that she is unable to work, it is too much to do alone. We know there are a lot of many worthy causes, and that 1/3 of GoFundMes are for medical expenses, but we would be extremely grateful for any help that we could get in paying the cost of her medical treatment. It is not financially feasible for her to repay the cost of her care, even when she God-willing can return to work, and the cost is becoming overwhelming. We will continue to pay what we can as a family for her expenses and bills, but we are trying to crowd-source $20,000 for her expenses in her time of need and will be grateful for every donation because every contribution helps so much.
