As a devoted supporter of the retired K9s of Charlotte County, I have witnessed the extraordinary loyalty and sacrifice these dogs give in the line of duty. Their service is selfless, their devotion to their handlers absolute, and their courage unwavering. We are working toward establishing a foundation to ensure these heroes receive the care they deserve in retirement, but tonight we face a critical and time-sensitive crisis.
Retired K9 Apollo, who spent nearly five years serving the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, is now fighting for his life. He is suffering from a severe neurological emergency. Apollo can no longer stand, and every moment is filled with agonizing pain. His veterinarians suspect a spinal injury or slipped disc, but only an emergency MRI and specialized neurological care can provide answers and a path forward. We have been given an estimate of $12,000 for this urgent care. Without it, the unthinkable decision of euthanasia may become his only option.
Apollo gave his best years to protecting our families and standing resolutely at his handler’s side. Now, he deserves the chance to keep fighting. I am calling on our community to rally for this hero. Every contribution, no matter the size, and every share of his story can help secure the care he so desperately needs.
Any funds raised beyond what is required for Apollo will be directed to other retired K9s of Charlotte County, ensuring that his legacy of service continues by protecting those who once protected us.
Apollo gave us his strength, his loyalty, and his courage. Now it is our solemn duty to return that devotion and give him the hope of tomorrow.
