June 30, 2015, our lives were changed instantly. We went to visit our daughter Dani in Connecticut and after they dropped me off at the airport to fly back to Wisconsin, Dani and Al went to the ocean to ride the waves. Al was watching a wave to make sure Dani cleared it and that's where Al's life an our family lives changed instantly. The wave slammed Al head first to the ocean floor and was flipped in a backward C. He was knocked unconscious, Dani and three strangers pulled Al out of the ocean, met by lifeguards and EMT's. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and was in ICU for three days, transferred to a trauma unit for two days, then sent to the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain, CT. for two months, Al has an "Incomplete Spinal Injury". He was sent home from Connecticut, thank you to all friends and family that got him home. Al has a long road to recovery ahead of him and many challenges to overcome. Al's expenses will be in home health care, doctor, OT, PT, transportation, and remodeling our home to meet Al's needs.
