Kraig Campbell is a well-loved man, but to hear him say it he doesn't have many friends. We beg to differ. Kraig is the type of man either you love him or he drives you crazy and you still love him. He could come across and "rough around the edges" but if you got through his tough exterior it was only a matter of moments before you found out what a sweet, caring, and loving person he truly was. Just the mention of his name brings a smile to my face, as I look back over all the memories I shared with him and his family, Cathy, Amanda, and Amy. I actually met Kraig in 1996 and I can honestly say he was like a second father to me; after all I was at their house every day! We spent summers at the lake with him, took trips to the beach (where being the outdoorsy man he is we all camped through a hurricane and had to sleep on a bridge at night so he could fish), and yes you know Amanda and I complained, after all we were teenage girls and we just wanted a tan! But it was probably one of the best beach trips I’ve ever taken and I am so grateful they let me tag along.
January 25th, 2012, Kraig was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and unfortunately never made it to remission. Month after month he continued to fight by taking is chemo and radiation, he was in and out of the hospitals but no matter how hard he fought, the cancer fought right back. For everyone that knows Kraig, he is one of the best fighters out there. He was able to fully recover from breaking almost every bone in his body in a bad motorcycle accident, so why could he not fight this.
Today the cancer has completely taken over and Kraig is currently in ICU waiting for that moment when the Lord calls him home. While we all understand that this time has come, it certainly does not make it any easier. To see a man who has so much love for his family and life now a man that is just so tired and defeated truly breaks my heart. Kraig is only 56 years old, and if it was not for this cancer he would still be out there hunting and fishing every chance he got. He would be laughing and hugging Cathy, he would be giving Amanda a hard time, and he would be spoiling his two grandkids, and wrestling with his dog Harley.
Shortly after Kraig was diagnosed he was unable to work so unfortunately with not having a job he was not able to get medical or life insurance. So I am creating this page first of all so everyone can learn a little bit of what type of person he was and second to ask for your help. His family is going through a very rough time right now and the last thing they need to worry about is how they are going to survive once everything is said and done. So if you can please find it in your heart to help them, I know anything would be truly appreciated.
