Help Andrew Fulfill His Dream

The Dream

For the past thirty-plus years as a coach, I have used my talents and passion to help other people to achieve their dreams.

This is my chance to do the same for myself. Let me explain.

From as far back as my childhood memories go, sailing around the world has been a dream of mine. As a child, I devoured a book authored by Robin Knox-Johnston about his journey to be the first person to sail around the world alone, non-stop, and unassisted! I was spellbound as I read the account of this amazing adventure.

Some forty-plus years later, with the story still planted into my imagination, I applied and was accepted to participate in the 2023-24 Clipper Round the World Race. A fun fact... this race was created by the very same Robin Knox-Johnston that had inspired me in the first place. Currently eighty-two years old, Robin will be at the start line to send us off in August of 2023!

I love how the universe works!

About The Event

There are eleven identical boats, each with 18-20 crew members, and we'll compete in a series of legs of 3-5 weeks in duration, taking us from the UK all the way around the globe and back to the UK.

In total, the race will take 11 months and we'll cover 42,000 miles at sea crossing all of the oceans and touching down for short stays on six of seven continents (sorry Antarctica!).

Race start and finish will be Portsmouth, on the beautiful southern coast of England.

Our course and estimated days at sea.

September 3 to early October - Portsmouth, UK, to Punta del Este, Uruguay (approx 33 days)

Punta del Este, Uruguay to Cape Town, South Africa (approx 18 days)

Cape Town, South Africa to Freemantle, Western Australia (approx 23 days)

Freemantle, Western Australia to East Coast Australia (approx 20 days)

East Coast Australia to China (approx 34 days)

China to USA (approx 37 days)

West Coast USA to Panama (approx 19 days)

Panama to East Coast USA (approx 19 days)

East Coast USA to UK (approx 22 days)

It will be the longest time away from my family and work, and truthfully, I have no idea what lies on the other side.

Join My Crew

I'm raising funds to help support a variety of expenses related to fulfilling this dream, including:

- the cost of my training to be physically and mentally prepared for the race
- a complete kit of ocean sailing clothing and gear
- the ocean training and race fees
- costs while in harbour at race stops
- a year off from coaching while I'm at sea
