Help Save Jack the Cat

Donation protected
Jack has been Maggie's companion for the last several years.  Unlike most cats, Jack loves to go places with her on his leash and be admired by the people. He loves all the kids he gets to meet when they do Trunk or Treat each year!

Last week Maggie noticed that Jack really wasn't himself. The normally energetic cat was walking slowly with his tail down. Instead of climbing up to great heights and jumping down, he was staying low and even then crawled down. No jumping for our Jack the Cat! He  is suddenly also much skinnier.  Then he stopped all eating and drinking.

Off to the vet. Slight temperature, (he HATES that part!) Big bubble of water under the skin, not a favorite either... Because he had blood work pointing to an infection, but no obvious wound, Jack got an antibotic and pills to make him hungry.

While A helped take care of business, Jack looked at the birds and was perky for a few minutes as we took him home. Sometimes he seemed to be doing better, other times he didn't.

Last night, he threw up blood!

Back to the vet this morning. Abdominal X-Rays show a 1-2 cm object inside his belly.

This mystery object needs to be removed. Maggie played Operation as a child, but sadly was a Communication and Theology student, not a Vet.

We spent today talking with several vets and on the phone with everyone we could think of, email and chatting too. Here is what we know:

Lowest cost would be an endoscopy between $1,500-$1,800 if they can use a scope to remove the object and without major complications.

It is about $2,500 if they have to go in and get it the hard way.

Simply put, This "object" is lodged in his stomach and hasn't got a valid exit path. he needs surgery or Jack the Cat will die.

Maggie says:  "I love this furball, and more than anything want him to be happy and healthy- if that means we have to get him a new home I will do that. The other issue is I have not been able to get promises that he would be healed if surrendered him for adoption.

"I feel terrible that my companion is suffering and may die without help. We have arranged for everyday care and maintenance as well as basic vet care, but this is FAR beyond what I can do. Please help me save Jack."

Maggie has been in the long process of applying for Disability for her PTSD and doesn't know what she would do without Jack.
