Funding a scholarship to send another veteran to yoga teacher training.
I spent most of my adult life in the military, and accumulated the bumps and bruises; inside and outside, that go along with that. The most effective, and healthiest thing I've ever done was incorporating yoga into my post-military life.
I've gained strength, balance, better mobility, increased flexibility, and overall better physical and mental health. I lost things too. Mostly weight and pain. The 200hour Registered Yoga Teacher training showed me ways to improve my own health while I was learning how to help others. I want to see another veteran get that gift and maybe pass it on to others.
So, I started this campaign to raise the funds to send a veteran to the next 200RYT training at Om My Yoga Academy that begins September 25, 2015. Yoga classes will be held at locations in the area between now and Sept. 25 for donations toward the cost of training. The kickoff class will be at the Om My Yoga Harrisburg Warehouse on August 8th at 2:00 pm.
Why did I select "Phoenix?" The Phoenix was a mythological bird that was reborn from the fire and ashes of its own destruction. This notion of rebirth and flight into a new world seemed like a natural fit for the vision I have of this campaign. I think yoga can give us the tools to burst from our own ashes and take flight again.
In the meantime, I wanted to have a way for anyone to help who might not be in the central PA area, or who can’t make it to one of the classes we will be holding. Om My Yoga has graciously agreed to match the funds donated toward tuition, so my goal is to raise $1440, which will cover the cost of half the tuition ($1245) and the $195 cost of the recommended books for the training.
