Support for Richard Seganfreddo

A friend to all of us from our community is facing some incredibly difficult times. Many have asked how they can help so we decided to create this Gofundme page in the hopes of raising some funds to let him and his family know we are all thinking of him and sending love and support. Hopefully this can help brighten his spirits and maybe take a bit of pressure off so he can focus on the challenges ahead. Richard really struggled with letting us set up this page, he is a very proud and private man. But he has a tough road ahead of him and his friends were able to convince him that this was a way for the community to support him and his family in the coming months.
Richard is a single dad with five kids - four of whom are still living at home. Many know Richard and have likely met him through his kids' sports. In June Richard was diagnosed with colon cancer and in July he developed an infection and was hospitalized - he has not been able to work since and being self-employed has no benefits to assist him through this time. The current plan is three months of chemo (which started October 26th) with the hope of shrinking the tumor to a size that it can be safely surgically removed. The challenge in all of this is that Richard is still battling that infection - he is on three antibiotics and attends at RCH every morning to get the antibiotics by IV. They are starting him on a "low and slow" dose of chemo to see how his body responds. His surgeon, Dr. Hamilton, is highly regarded for complicated surgeries for advanced cancers and he is optimistic that the current plan is the best option for Richard at this time. With his treatment and recovery plan it will be some time before he is able to return to work.
