#BeauStrong: A Fight for Beau Bailey

Hi, my name is Cassie Yaeger, and I live in Gresham, WI with my three boys: Brody (11), Caden (9), and Hudson (8). My sister, Leslie Rost, lives in Big Lake, Alaska, near Wasilla, with her partner Al Bailey and their two sons, Hunter (8) and Beau (2).

It’s with a heavy heart that I find myself typing this message. This is a situation none of us could have ever imagined, and it’s something that has changed our world forever.

On March 21, Leslie brought her two-year-old son, Beau, to the emergency room after he had been battling a fever for 4 days. After blood tests, the doctors returned with alarming news: Beau’s blood counts were dangerously low and they immediately sent him to Providence Children’s Hospital in Anchorage, about an hour away from their home.

At the hospital, Beau was given fluids and underwent his first blood transfusion. He was severely dehydrated, lethargic, and in critical condition. After further tests, including a bone marrow biopsy, Beau was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). The doctors informed Leslie and Al that Beau would need aggressive chemotherapy treatment for the next 28 days, along with a variety of other medications and treatments for up to 3 years.

The road ahead will be tough for Beau, and for my sister Leslie and her family. Beau will be in the hospital for an extended period of time, and his parents will need all the support they can get. They should not have to worry about anything other than being there for Beau during this fight.
