Dear Sisters and Brothers,
We need your help to keep Black Star News alive and growing.
For more than two decades, we’ve done what few others dare to do: expose injustice, corruption, and abuse of power—especially when it targets Black, immigrant, and working-class communities.
Our investigative journalism is entirely self-funded by myself and our managing editor, Colin Benjamin. We operate on faith, grit, and sacrifice. Some months, we barely have enough to keep our website running. Colin takes extra jobs just to survive. I’m pursuing my PhD in History while continuing this essential work—because our people deserve truth, not silence.
We believe in “Justice for All,” not selective justice for the powerful.
Without a publication like Black Star News, many in our communities would have no voice—no platform willing to confront corruption in courtrooms, hospitals, or public institutions that fail the most vulnerable.
Why Our Work Matters
One recent case shows why we can’t stop.
We’ve been reporting on Haitian immigrant Cassandra Fameux, who alleges that her husband, Dr. Paul Gregory St. Claire—an anesthesiologist—drugged her for nearly a decade with antipsychotic medication meant for treating schizophrenia and bipolar disorder even though two psychiatrists have since confirmed she didn't have the diseases. The alleged side effects were devastating: a brain tumor, heart damage (she now lives with a monitor in her chest), diabetes, and sterilization.
Medical records from the University of Michigan Health System misidentified who was administering the drugs. Ms. Fameux's husband Dr. St. Claire has admitted that he was the one who injected her monthly for years—not a colleague, Dr. Dominic Barberio, as stated in the records. She and her lawyer Timothy Young said he forced her to sign away custody of her three children and millions in marital assets while she was incapacitated by these drugs.
Despite overwhelming evidence and her legal incompetency ruling, the Lansing, Michigan court under Judge Carol N. Koenig refused to overturn the fraudulent agreement. When we investigated and published the story, Dr. St. Claire was eventually fired by the University of Michigan Health Sparrow in 2024 after his wife said he altered her medical records.
On April 10, 2025, after months of Black Star News reporting and a criminal complaint by Ms. Fameux, police recommended criminal charges against Dr. St. Claire. Yet, John Dewane, the prosecutor, has taken no action. You can also contact him by googling his name and title under Ingham County Prosecutor and his information will show up via
and ask why he’s dragging his feet and also sign the petition demanding action.
Ms. Fameux says plainly: “Black Star News saved my life.”
We Speak for the Powerless
We’ve also exposed injustice against working-class Black, Latino, Asian, and white families, victims of deed theft and foreclosure fraud in bankruptcy courts, and people railroaded by biased judges in New York and Michigan.
In a media landscape dominated by corporate interests, we stand alone—fighting for truth, fairness, and accountability.
We Need You Now
To continue this vital work, we need your help.
